A man from New Jersey, Eric Gapco of Delanco, was indicted by a federal grand jury for his alleged disruptive and life-threatening behavior on an American Airlines flight in July. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Salt Lake City, Utah made the announcement this week.

Gapco reportedly attempted to open the exterior doors of the aircraft multiple times during the flight from Seattle, Washington to Dallas, Texas. He also made inappropriate advances towards a flight attendant, engaged in vaping, locked himself in the bathroom, and bothered other passengers on the flight.

Videos from the plane showed Gapco being restrained by flight attendants and passengers, with his hands and feet tied up. The flight was diverted to Salt Lake City so that Gapco could be removed from the plane. Police were seen escorting him off the aircraft.

Gapco allegedly told arresting officers that he had consumed around 10 marijuana edibles, but was unsure of the THC content in each. He continued to exhibit violent and erratic behavior even after landing in Salt Lake City, reportedly breaking glass in a holding cell and spitting on an officer.

Flight data shows that the flight, AA 2101, eventually completed its journey to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport the following day. Gapco’s actions caused significant disruption and inconvenience to the crew and passengers on board.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of following airline regulations and behaving appropriately during flights. Disruptive behavior can have serious consequences, including legal action and potential criminal charges. It is essential for passengers to respect the rules and guidelines set by airlines to ensure a safe and pleasant travel experience for everyone on board.
