Alright, so like, there was this dude named Matthew Johnson, and he got executed for setting a convenience store clerk on fire back in 2012. The poor clerk, Nancy Harris, was just doing her thing when Johnson decided to splash her with lighter fluid and set her ablaze at a store in Garland. Johnson, who was 49 years old, got the lethal injection treatment at the state penitentiary in Huntsville after 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

The whole thing was pretty brutal, man. I mean, Harris, who was 76 at the time, suffered severe burns and eventually passed away a few days later. Johnson didn’t even try to deny it – he straight up admitted to setting her on fire during his trial in 2013. He claimed he was high on crack and didn’t really know what he was doing. His lawyers tried to argue that his death sentence was unconstitutional, but nobody was buying it. The guy had a history of drug addiction and had been through some messed up stuff in his life, but that didn’t excuse what he did.

It’s honestly crazy to think about how these executions are still happening. Like, I get that justice needs to be served and all, but it’s just so final, you know? Four of these executions went down within a week, with Johnson being the latest one. I’m not really sure why this matters, but it feels like there has to be a better way to handle these situations. Anyway, Johnson’s guilt was never in question, and now he’s become the fourth person to be executed in Texas this year. Just goes to show you, crime doesn’t pay.
