Kim Kardashian, the famous celebrity and billionaire, endured a harrowing experience during a robbery in Paris back in 2016. The trial for the ten individuals accused of this crime has finally come to a close after a month of proceedings. The alleged mastermind behind the $10 million jewelry heist, Aomar Aït Khedache, who is now deaf and mostly unable to speak, offered a written apology to the court. Prosecutors are pushing for a 10-year prison sentence for him. The group involved in the robbery, known as “the Grandpa Robbers” due to their age, faced charges of robbery and kidnapping.
During the trial’s final session, two of the accused individuals, whose DNA was found at the crime scene, expressed their remorse to Kim Kardashian and the court. Yunis Abbas, suspected of being the lookout for the gang, apologized for his role in the traumatic event that Kardashian still grapples with. Khedache, in his note, also issued an apology, including one to his son Harminy Aït Khedache, who was accused of being a driver for the gang that night. While only DNA from two of the accused was discovered, the remaining eight defendants reiterated their innocence in court.
The prosecution is seeking various sentences for the different individuals involved in the robbery. Four men directly involved in the armed robbery face potential 10-year prison terms, with prosecutors labeling them as skilled criminals who devised and executed a successful plan. Other accused parties, including a bar manager, a waiter, and a female identified as the gang’s “secretary,” are also facing possible prison sentences. The trial has shed light on the events of that fateful night in Paris, ultimately seeking justice for Kim Kardashian and holding the perpetrators accountable for their actions.
