An English professor from Colorado was taken into custody by the police after his wife was found injured and bleeding, and his infant daughter was found dead in their home. Nicholas Myklebust, a 44-year-old professor at Regis University, called for help when he discovered his wife, Seorin Kim, on the floor and his daughter unresponsive. He claimed that he found his wife injured after waking up from a nap and assumed she fell from a stepladder in the bedroom. However, authorities noted that Kim had severe head and face injuries inconsistent with a fall, and the official cause of her death has not been released by the medical examiner.
Upon arriving at the scene, detectives observed bruising and blood on Myklebust’s knuckles, as well as scratch marks on his neck and chest. He explained that the bruises were due to skin discoloration and that his wife would scratch him because of his psoriasis. Additionally, police found bloody gloves in and around the dryer in the house.
It was revealed during Myklebust’s bond hearing that this was not the first child to die in his care. Prosecutors mentioned that another child had died in 2021 from skull fractures, but no charges were filed at that time. The professor’s attorney did not respond to requests for comment.
Regis University, where Myklebust taught, expressed deep distress over the situation and extended their condolences to the victims’ family and the community. They acknowledged the gravity of the news and the impact it has had on everyone involved.
The tragic incident has left the community in shock and raised questions about the events leading up to the deaths of Myklebust’s wife and infant daughter. As the investigation continues, more details may emerge regarding the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking case.
