A 55-year-old man from Miami has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of his 8-year-old daughter and her mother over eight years ago. The man, Gustavo Alfonso Castano Restrepo, was considered a person of interest in the case for years, but it wasn’t until recently that federal prosecutors charged him with kidnapping resulting in death.

According to police documents from 2016, Castano Restrepo had asked his daughter and her mother to come with him to a Home Depot in Hialeah, Florida. However, an argument ensued during the car ride, and Castano Restrepo claimed that he dropped them off near a turnpike after his arm was scratched by Liliana Moreno.

When Castano Restrepo returned to pick them up after work, both Liliana and Daniella were nowhere to be found. It wasn’t until days later that Liliana’s sister realized they were missing, leading to a massive search effort by local authorities and media coverage.

Despite being a person of interest in the case, Castano Restrepo denied any involvement in his daughter and ex-partner’s disappearance. Investigators continued to seek new leads in the cold case, eventually leading to the recent indictment against him.

Miami-Dade Police Detective Christopher Villano emphasized the importance of thorough investigation before making an arrest in such cases. The attorney representing Castano Restrepo declined to comment on the recent developments.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of thorough investigations and perseverance in solving cold cases. The authorities’ dedication to seeking justice for Daniella Moreno and Liliana Moreno highlights their commitment to ensuring that no crime goes unpunished.
