Alrighty, folks! So, like, big news on the drug bust scene. Federal prosecutors just announced that they made the “largest fentanyl bust in DEA history,” and it’s a real doozy. Sixteen people got arrested, and they snagged a whopping three million pills laced with fentanyl. That’s some serious business right there.
The operation went down in a bunch of states out West, and Attorney General Pam Bondi is calling it a major win in the fight against fentanyl and drug trafficking. Among the arrested folks is Heriberto Salazar Amaya, a big shot from the Sinaloa cartel. The State Department even labeled these guys as a foreign terrorist organization back in February. Yikes!
When asked if any of these bad guys are getting deported to Mexico, Bondi was all like, “Nah, let’s keep ’em in our prisons as long as possible.” She even mentioned Alcatraz, the old prison that Trump wants to reopen. Talk about throwin’ it back!
The Justice Department dropped some stats too. They seized over 400 kilograms of fentanyl pills, along with other drugs like meth, cocaine, and heroin. Plus, they raked in $5 million in cash and a bunch of guns. It’s like something out of a movie, I swear.
According to Bondi, fentanyl is wreaking havoc in America, with 75,000 people dying each year because of it. It’s the number one killer for folks aged 18 to 34. She called it a “weapon of mass destruction” that’s flooding our cities. Scary stuff, man.
Ryan Ellison, a U.S. attorney, talked about how this drug network was all over the place – New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, and Utah. The 16 arrested peeps are facing some serious charges, including conspiracy and firearms offenses. Sounds like they’re in deep trouble.
But hey, here’s a bit of good news. Drug overdoses, which are the top cause of death for young Americans, have actually gone down a bit in the last couple of years. Between 2022 and 2023, there was a 4% decrease nationwide. And from July 2023 to July 2024, overdose deaths fell by a whopping 17%. Progress, people!
So, there you have it, folks. The DEA and law enforcement are busting their butts to take down these drug rings. It’s a tough battle, but they’re making some headway. Let’s hope they keep up the good work and make our streets safer for everyone. Stay tuned for more updates on this wild ride!
