Shortly after, another report of gunfire came as celebrants crossed the Almonaster Avenue Bridge, resulting in one person dying at the scene and another succumbing to injuries at a hospital. A third victim, in stable condition, was driven to a hospital in a private vehicle. The police closed the Almonaster Bridge in both directions for investigation but made no arrests and released no suspect information.
The shootings took place in an area popular with tourists, the St. Roch neighborhood, located northeast of the French Quarter. Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick mentioned that the two incidents may not be related, as they had different characteristics. The violence occurred during a “second line” celebration following a parade organized by the Nine Times Social Aid & Pleasure Club in the 9th Ward, attracting thousands of participants.
