St. Paul native Suni Lee is set to showcase her gymnastics skills at the upcoming Paris Olympics. The 21-year-old, who hails from the East Side of St. Paul and is a graduate of South St. Paul High School, gained widespread recognition in 2021 when she clinched the all-around gold at the Tokyo Olympics following Simone Biles’ withdrawal due to mental health concerns.
Lee secured her spot in the Paris Olympics after excelling at the U.S. trials held at Target Center in Minneapolis. This achievement came just over a year after she faced a kidney disease diagnosis that threatened her career. Despite the setback, Lee’s determination and talent shone through, leading her to another shot at Olympic glory.
For those eager to catch Lee in action, here is her schedule for the remainder of the Paris Olympics, all times in Central Time:
– Tuesday, July 30: Women’s team final at 11:15 a.m.
– Thursday, Aug. 1: Women’s all-around final at 11:15 a.m.
– Sunday, Aug. 4: Uneven bars final at 8:45 a.m.
– Monday, Aug. 5: Balance beam final at 5:35 a.m.
Viewers can tune in to NBC for live coverage of the women’s gymnastics events, with streaming options available on Peacock, NBCOlympics.com, and the NBC Sports app. E! will also broadcast the apparatus finals. Additionally, streaming services will provide separate feeds for each apparatus during the team and all-around finals, while NBC’s “Primetime in Paris” show will feature replays of the women’s gymnastics competition.
In terms of Lee’s Olympic medal collection, she already boasts a gold in the all-around event, a bronze in the uneven bars from Tokyo, and a silver as part of the team. Looking ahead, Lee has her sights set on securing a gold in the balance beam competition this year.
