A 17-year-old boy was critically injured on a SEPTA bus in North Philadelphia after a gunman opened fire, with one person in custody. The incident occurred around 6:15 p.m. when Philadelphia police received reports of a shooting on the bus traveling on Allegheny Avenue near 3rd and 4th streets. The victim was the teenager and was shot in the back of the bus at close range in what investigators believe was a targeted attack.

The SEPTA bus driver alerted the control center about the shooting, which then informed the police. Officers found shell casings and blood on the bus but no victim. Later, they discovered the injured boy had been taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.

During the preliminary investigation, police learned that the suspects may have fled in a silver Kia. A pursuit ensued, and the Kia crashed at 5th and Greenwood streets in East Mount Airy. The driver tried to escape but was apprehended by the police. Another suspect is believed to have fled before the crash, leaving a coat behind near Allegheny Avenue and 4th Street. Additionally, a gun and spent shell casings were found in the vicinity of the crash.

The authorities are working on piecing together the sequence of events, as it is suspected that shots were fired both inside and outside the bus. Surveillance footage from the SEPTA bus is being reviewed as part of the active investigation.
