A man has been taken into custody by the Seattle police in connection with a series of random stabbings that occurred over a span of two days. The attacks resulted in the injury of a woman and eight men, with five of the incidents taking place on Friday afternoon in the Chinatown-International District.
Deputy Chief Eric Barden mentioned that the stabbings seemed to be the work of a single individual who carried out the assaults over a 38-hour period. Witnesses provided a description of the suspect, which led to his arrest in close proximity to the crime scenes. The police found a weapon near the arrested person, and one victim had a knife lodged in them.
Four of the male victims were taken to Harborview Medical Center, with two in critical condition and one in serious condition. The suspect arrested in connection with the Friday stabbings is believed to be the same person involved in four other stabbings that occurred on Thursday. The similarities in suspect descriptions and the random nature of the attacks have led the police to this conclusion, although the investigation is ongoing.
The series of stabbings began on Thursday when a 52-year-old woman was found with multiple stab wounds in the Chinatown area. Throughout the day, a 32-year-old man and a 37-year-old man were also discovered with stab wounds. Early Friday morning, a 53-year-old man was found with a severe neck injury. Despite the seriousness of the attacks, all victims were reported to be alive as of Friday afternoon.
Additionally, a separate incident involving a cellphone robbery and attempted stabbing of a 60-year-old man took place on Thursday night. The victim sustained a cut on his hand while defending himself, but it is unclear if this incident is connected to the other random stabbings.
The swift action of the Seattle police in apprehending the suspect has potentially prevented further harm to the community. As the investigation continues, authorities are working to gather more evidence and information to ensure that justice is served for the victims of these senseless attacks.
