Travis Doss, a 31-year-old man from Las Vegas, was arrested last year on child abuse charges for allegedly locking two children in a dog cage. Recently, he was deemed not competent to stand trial after pleading not guilty to nearly 40 child abuse charges. Court records revealed this information.

After undergoing a mental health evaluation, it was determined that Doss was not competent to stand trial. District Judge Christy Craig mentioned that there was a possibility of malingering, which suggests that Doss may be pretending to have a mental illness. As a result, Judge Craig ordered Doss to receive treatment at a state psychiatric hospital to help him regain competency.

Doss was taken into custody along with his wife, 33-year-old Amanda Stamper, on June 11, 2023. The arrest was made after Stamper informed a Walgreens employee that her husband was physically abusing their children and threatening to harm her. Upon arriving at the couple’s apartment, authorities discovered six children, two of whom were confined inside a dog kennel.

The child who was found inside the cage displayed signs of malnourishment and had bruises covering his body, according to the police. Stamper, on the other hand, pleaded guilty in December to three counts of child abuse, neglect, or endangerment. Subsequently, she was sentenced in February to serve between seven and 18 years in prison for her involvement in the case.

It is a disturbing and unfortunate situation that sheds light on the prevalence of child abuse in our society. The fact that two innocent children were subjected to such inhumane treatment is truly heartbreaking. However, it is reassuring to see that the legal system is taking action to ensure that justice is served in this case.
